Connect WordPress — in under a minute.
You don't need to copy a username or password. makeseo uses the authorization already built into WordPress: you confirm once in your own installation, done.
1 · Enter the address
In the dashboard click „Add connection“, choose the WordPress type and type in your website's address — your-site.com is enough. Whether with https://, a trailing slash or as a /wp-admin/ link doesn't matter.
2 · Confirm in WordPress
We open your own WordPress login. After signing in it says „makeseo wants to connect to your website“. One click on „Yes, I approve“ — that's it.
3 · Done
You land back in the dashboard automatically, the connection shows „Connected“ and is tested immediately. From now on finished articles go to your blog as a draft or published directly.
What makeseo does with the access
- Create posts — as a draft or published directly, exactly as you configure it. Your themes, plugins and settings stay untouched.
- No access to your login password — WordPress generates a dedicated application password just for makeseo. You can see it under Users → Profile and revoke it there individually at any time, without changing your password.
- Stored encrypted — AES-256-GCM, server-side. The value is never shown in the browser and never shared with third parties.
When the automatic connection isn't offered
Some hosts and security plugins disable application passwords. Then you enter them yourself — in the dialog click „Not working? Enter credentials manually“ and proceed like this:
- Sign in to WordPress and go to Users → Profile. Ideally use a dedicated account with the Author or Editor role — makeseo needs no more permissions than that.
- At the very bottom, find the Application Passwords section, enter makeseo as the name and click Add New Application Password.
- WordPress shows the value exactly once — six blocks separated by spaces. Copy it in full, the spaces are part of it.
- In the makeseo dialog, enter the address, your WordPress username and the copied value and click „Save & test“.
When something's stuck
The most common messages and what's behind them.
- „We couldn't find a WordPress site at this address.“
- Usually a typo in the address — or a security plugin (e.g. Wordfence, iThemes Security, Disable REST API) is blocking the WordPress interface. Enter your-site.com/wp-json in your browser: if no JSON appears, something is blocking it. Unblock the /wp-json path.
- „Your WordPress site doesn't offer the automatic connection.“
- Application passwords require your site to run over https, and they can be disabled via plugin. First check whether your site shows a padlock in the address bar. Otherwise you enter the credentials yourself via „Not working? Enter credentials manually“.
- „This WordPress user can't create posts.“
- You signed in with an account that has no write permissions — such as a Subscriber. Sign in with an account with the Author, Editor or Administrator role and start the connection again.
- „The application password is incorrect.“
- For the manual route: the application password consists of six blocks with spaces between them. The spaces are part of it — paste the value in full, exactly as WordPress displays it. Your normal login password doesn't work here.
- Can I revoke the connection again?
- Yes, at any time and from both sides. In makeseo under Settings → Integrations click the trash icon. In WordPress under Users → Profile → Application Passwords click „Revoke“ next to the makeseo entry. Already published articles remain unchanged.
- Does this work with WooCommerce too?
- Yes — the same connection. Once WordPress is connected, makeseo can import your WooCommerce products and link to them appropriately within the articles. For that, the account used also needs the Shop Manager role.
